Hertha Berlin favoured to beat Werder Bremen and move into the Europa League spots!

Hertha celebrate the winner against Bremen last season.

Hertha celebrate the winner against Bremen last season.

Last season’s Hertha Berlin v Werder Bremen match saw Hertha end a three match losing streak against these familiar foes and if they can claim victory against Bremen this evening it will be the first time since the 2001/02 Bundesliga season that they will have won back to back matches in this fixture. They are doing better than Bremen at this stage of the season with six more points collected in 15 matches and they are favoured to increase that gap to nine points and move themselves into the top six in the league with victory tonight according to GR88.com. Their Hertha v Werder betting odds are as below.

Hertha Berlin v Werder Bremen Betting Odds:

Hertha Berlin to win – 1.62

Draw – 3.75

Werder Bremen to win – 5.00

(Odds provided by GR88.com are current as of today but subject to change.)

Although Hertha Berlin are favoured to take all three points in the opening match of the 16th round of Bundesliga action this evening, they are less favoured this evening than last night as they have slipped from odds 1.57 to 1.60. I feel that they should not be slipping as they face a Werder Bremen side this evening that is in serious trouble defensively. Bremen come into this match without a win in four and their 7-0 thumping at home by FIFA Club World Cup bound Bayern Munich saw their goals against record in this run reach 17 goals. All confidence that they had up to that point would have been sucked out of them too as they shipped a goal every ten minutes after going behind in the 21st minute of the match.

Despite this appalling recent defensive record of late, Bremen have been scoring goals in this winless streak as they have found the net on seven occasions, with the majority of them coming in the 4-4 draw away at Hoffenheim, and this has seen them outscore their hosts over the last four games by two goals. Hertha have taken seven points in their last four matches, compared to just a single point for the visitors to the Olympiastadion, but their defensive record of conceding just three goals in the last four games will give them the edge this evening.

As well as this Hertha have conceded as many goals in their 15 Bundesliga matches this season as Bremen have done in their last four games. In fact, this concession of so many goals in the last few games has seen Werder Bremen double their goals conceded tally from 17 after 11 matches to 34 after 15 and I can see them shipping goals again tonight. However, they are likely to find the net as well, but their leaky defence will cost them ultimately and my money is on a home win tonight with plenty goals in the game.

Back Hertha Berlin to win this Hertha v Werder match and there to be +2.5 goals scored @ 2.34 in the GR88 Sportsbook!

Battle for second in the Bundesliga

Matchday 15 of the German Bundesliga season sees league leader Bayern Munich confident of stretching its amazing 36-game unbeaten streak at struggling Werder Bremen on Saturday. The hosts have one of the weakest defensive lines in the league and are unlikely to stop Bayern’s amazing forward firepower. Over 3.5 goals in this one (1.95 at Intertops) could be a distinct possibility.

The top Bundesliga game this weekend features the battle for second place in the table when Borussia Dortmund entertains Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park stadium. Both teams picked up away wins in the DFB Cup in midweek and go into the encounter full of confidence. A full house of 80,000 will guarantee an amazing atmosphere, but home coach Jurgen Klopp has to overcome the injury-forced absence of several top players to gain a three-point haul and retake second place from Bayer. Three of the Bundesliga’s most prolific goalscorers will also be on show with Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski (11 goals) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (8) looking to outshine Leverkusen’s Stefan Kießling (9).

After six wins in seven home games (the only loss coming against Bayern), Dortmund is the bookies’ favourite to triumph, but Leverkusen has won four of six on the road this season and could pull off a surprise.

Borussia Dortmund v Bayer Leverkusen Betting Odds

Borussia Dortmund         1.53

Bayer Leverkusen            5.50

Up for the cup in Germany

german football

Midweek soccer action in Germany sees the round of last 16 in the national cup competition. DFB Pokal take center stage. Still being in with a chance of getting to the final in Berlin is a massive confidence booster for every team during the upcoming winter break and so thrilling action should be guaranteed.

The draw has provided fans with three all-Bundesliga clashes: Schalke vs. Hoffenheim, Freiburg vs. Leverkusen and Augsburg vs. seemingly unbeatable Bayern Munich. Neutral fans across the country always have an eye on the underdogs, but with most top teams enjoying home advantage over lower-ranked opposition, surprises might be few and far between.

Borussia Dortmund faces a potentially tricky game at third-tier Saarbrücken, but should have the class to move on. One team that will have to be on its toes is inconsistent Hamburg which welcomes second division leader Cologne to the Imtech Arena. The home outfit has been leaking goals at an alarming rate all season, whilst the visiting “Goats” have impressed in all aspects of their game under new coach Peter Stöger in the last few months and will have no fears about taking on a renowned Bundesliga side.

An amazing atmosphere is always guaranteed when these two big clubs go toe to toe, but who will stay in the race for the final?

 DFB Pokal Betting Odds

Hamburg 1.80     Draw 3.40     Cologne 4.0

Saarbrücken 11.0   Draw  5.50   Dortmund 1.20
