Can Arsenal take revenge against Liverpool in the FA Cup?

Daniel Sturridge makes it 5-0 in the recent Liverpool v Arsenal game at Anfield

Daniel Sturridge makes it 5-0 in the recent Liverpool v Arsenal game at Anfield

This FA Cup fifth round match comes just eight days after the 5-1 drubbing of Arsenal at Anfield by Liverpool, so the defeat will be fresh the memories of Arsene Wenger and his players, so they will be highly motivated to ensure they claim their revenge in front of their own fans this weekend. The big question is, will the change of venue and eight days of mulling over the mistakes made in front of The Kop be enough for Arsenal to move into the final eight sides in the FA Cup?

The Arsenal v Liverpool outright odds with GR88.com do not suggest that Arsenal will win this match, but they certainly see this game being close between these sides that sit in the top four of the Premier League. The odds are as follows.

Arsenal v Liverpool Outright Odds:

Arsenal – 2.52

Draw – 3.20

Liverpool – 2.44

(All odds provided by GR88.com are accurate as of today and subject to change).

Although they suffered a massively demoralising defeat at Anfield just over a week ago, Arsene Wenger has described that match as poor all over the pitch and in every area of the gameplay. They will look to make things right in front of their own fans this Sunday and following a 2-0 win earlier in the season, as well as 2-0 and 4-0 wins over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and League One Coventry City to reach this stage of the FA Cup, they will be confident. Their overall home record has seen ten wins and two draws since losing to Chelsea at the end of October. They have kept 11 clean sheets in this time, conceding just one goal, and they have no goals conceded in their last seven home games. Can they defend better than at Anfield last weekend?

Since beating Arsenal last weekend, Liverpool have already travelled to London once as they faced, and defeated with a last minute penalty, Fulham to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches after they were beaten away at Man City and Chelsea at the end of December. They have had an easy time of things in the FA Cup so far, beating Oldham and Bournemouth 2-0, but will they have enough confidence to win at The Emirates this weekend after their recent win and nine match unbeaten streak?

The GR88.com Arsenal v Liverpool outright odds say perhaps and the history between these two sides at The Emirates also gives us a maybe answer as there has been one home win, two draws and one away win the last four meetings between these teams in North London. I personally feel that this game could go finish in any of the home win, draw, away win options as Arsenal will surely not defend and play as badly as they did a week ago at Anfield and I see this game being much, much closer. However, both sides are capable of scoring goals and, as such, I feel that there will be a few goals scored this weekend and I am putting my money on there being 2/3 goals scored in this match just like in nine of the last 11 Arsenal v Liverpool matches.

Back 2/3 goals to be scored at The Emirates in this Arsenal v Liverpool FA Cup 5th Round clash @ 2.06 with GR88.com.

Can Tim Sherwood Win His First North London Derby?

This FA Cup match sees Tim Sherwood's managerial North London Derby debut

This FA Cup match sees Tim Sherwood’s managerial North London Derby debut

The biggest match from the first round of the FA Cup that sees the big boys competing with the sides that have made it through the qualification, first and second rounds sees an all Premier League clash as two of the closest sides battle for a place in the fourth round at The Emirates Stadium today. Both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will be desperate to get one over on their nearest and biggest rivals, but will the experience of more than 17 years worth of North London Derby matches for Arséne Wenger or the inexperience of a first Arsenal v Tottenham game for new Spurs manager Tim Sherwood win the day?

GR88.com believe that the Frenchman and his Premier League topping Arsenal side will have learnt their lesson from fielding a weakened side against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup earlier this season as they slipped to a 2-0 loss as they favour the home win today.

North London Derby Betting Odds:

Arsenal Victory – 1.90

Draw – 3.35

Tottenham Victory – 3.45

(Odds provided by GR88.com are current as of today but subject to change.)

Arsenal have an excellent home record in North London Derby matches and they have lost just once to Tottenham at either their current home of The Emirate Stadium and their previous stadium at Highbury since 1993. That win for Spurs came in 2010 when goals from Gareth Bale, Rafael van der Vaart and Younes Kaboul saw them come from 2-0 down at half time to snatch all three points and their first away win at their rivals since goals from Teddy Sheringham and John Hendry (2) saw them win 17 years previously.

Things have not gone well at The Emirates since that day for Tottenham either as they have suffered two 5-2 losses in the last three visits across North London as well as being beaten 1-0 this season in the Premier League. However, after recording just their second win at Old Trafford against Manchester United since 1989 on New Year’s Day Tim Sherwood and Tottenham will be hoping that they can continue to collect rare victories in 2014 this evening.

They do face an Arsenal side unbeaten in four matches though and the hosts today have conceded just one goal since suffering a 6-3 defeat away at Manchester City three weeks ago and despite Tottenham being unbeaten in four matches following a Capital One Cup loss at home to West Ham in Tim Sherwood’s first match they will find it tough to break down Arsenal’s fine defence that has seen them top of the league this season. As well as this Sherwood sets his team up to be an attacking side and I feel that Arsenal will get plenty of opportunities to find the net in this FA Cup third round match.

This, I believe, will give the hosts the advantage and I am going with GR88.com in favouring Arsenal to claim victory in this North London Derby clash at The Emirates this evening.

Arsenal Favourites to Return to the Top of the EPL by Beating Chelsea Tonight

Theo Walcott celebrates his goal in Arsenal's 5-3 win over Chelsea in 2011

Theo Walcott celebrates his goal in Arsenal’s 5-3 win over Chelsea in 2011

The final Premier League match before Christmas sees a top of the table meeting between Arsenal and Chelsea at the Emirates as the sides meet for the second time this season after Chelsea’s 2-0 win in North London at the end of October. That victory saw Chelsea progress in the Capital One Cup against a weakened Arsenal side, as Arséne Wenger tends to do in cup competitions, but this evening’s clash of these two sides at The Emirates is sure to be a much more difficult task for Jose Mourinho’s men.

GR88.com certain believe that Chelsea will fail to claim all three points at The Emirates Stadium this evening as they make the team in blue the outsiders for all three points this evening while favouring the home team. Having said that their Arsenal v Chelsea betting odds see the match being a difficult one for both teams and that we should see a close match tonight.

Arsenal v Chelsea Outright Odds:

Arsenal victory – 2.26

Draw – 3.15

Chelsea victory – 3.05

(Odds provided by GR88.com are current as of today but subject to change.)

Victories for Liverpool and Manchester City over the weekend as well as failure to win two games in a row for Arsenal have seen them slip to third position in the Premier League before kick off this evening, but since losing 2-0 to Chelsea at the end of October in the Capital One Cup they have been in excellent form in front of their own fans. They have won four and drawn one of their five matches, conceding just a single goal against Everton in a 1-1 draw, so they will be confident of this ground tonight. However, they have been beaten away at Napoli in the Champions League and at Man City last weekend in their last two games with eight goals conceded but which Arsenal side will we see emerge from the tunnels this evening?

I am with GR88.com in thinking that we’ll see the Arsenal side that has gone unbeaten in almost two months on home soil, and with Chelsea having had a poor run of results away from home since winning at The Emirates two months ago. They have won just two of their six away games since sending Arséne Wenger’s charges out of the Capital One and these came against two of the bottom four of the Premier League in West Ham and Sunderland. The other four games in this time have seen losses to Newcastle, Stoke and FC Basel in the Champions League while they were held at Sunderland in the League Cup last week too. That game saw Chelsea spurn plenty of chances before the hosts levelled in the 88th minute before seeing Mourinho’s men off in extra time to reach the last four of the competition. They’ll need to bounce back this evening against a much better side than Sunderland, but can Chelsea manage this?

Although Chelsea have the better recent head-to-head against Arsenal with wins in each of their last three matches against their fellow Londoners and are unbeaten in four, but Arsenal are much more fearsome this season than in many a year. They are missing Jack Wilshere after his crude gesture to the Man City fans, but will be boosted by the return of Lukas Podolski up front and with Chelsea making headlines with Jose Mourinho’s dropping of former Arsenal left back Ashley Cole for Cesar Azpilicueta the hosts are sure to be more settled for tonight’s match.. As a result of this I feel that Arsenal will be the side that makes all the running tonight and returns to the top of the league with all three points at The Emirates tonight.
